What Best Buy will match, which stores count, and the holiday week when it stops.
The bottom line
Best Buy matches the price of an identical, new, in-stock item from its list of qualified competitors, including Amazon, Walmart, Target and Costco. It does not match from the Thursday before Thanksgiving through the Monday after, or items marked as Black Friday pricing. Amazon marketplace sellers do not count, and Amazon itself does not price match. If you want a match, ask before that week starts.
The rules, explained
The item must be identical
What it means: Same brand, model number and color as the Best Buy item.
Watch out for: A store-specific model number or a bundle. Bundles and items inside bundles do not qualify.
New and available now
What it means: The competitor item must be new and immediately available for shipping or store pickup.
Watch out for: Clearance, refurbished, open-box and out-of-stock items do not qualify.
Sold by the competitor itself
What it means: The price must come from one of the qualified competitors.
Watch out for: Third-party marketplace sellers, including on Amazon, do not qualify.
One match per item
What it means: One price match at the time of purchase, per identical item, per customer.
Watch out for: You cannot stack a second match on the same item.
Holiday pause
What it means: Items for sale at a competitor from the Thursday before Thanksgiving through the Monday after are excluded, along with items marked as Black Friday pricing.
Watch out for: A great Black Friday price at a rival will not be matched.
Which stores qualify
Best Buy's qualified competitor list (effective May 11, 2025) is: Abt, Amazon, Apple, B&H Photo Video, BJ's Wholesale Club, BrandsMart USA, Costco, Crutchfield, Dick's Sporting Goods, Home Depot, Lowe's, Menards, Microcenter, Nebraska Furniture Mart, P.C. Richard, RC Willey, Sam's Club, Target and Walmart. Best Buy says the guarantee does not apply to products shipped from and sold by third-party marketplace sellers on these websites, so an Amazon listing only counts when Amazon is the seller. The list can change, so check Best Buy's page before you rely on it.

The Black Friday week trap
The pause covers the Thursday before Thanksgiving through the Monday after, which is when most doorbusters run. Best Buy also excludes items marked as Black Friday pricing. Amazon does not price match, so there is no fallback there. The practical move is to buy where the price is lowest and know the return window.
Best Buy will match its own lower price during the return and exchange period if you ask. Standard returns are 15 days. My Best Buy Plus and My Best Buy Total members get 60 days. The clock starts the day you receive the product.

Before you ask for a match
- Check today's date. If it falls from the Thursday before Thanksgiving to the Monday after, a match is excluded.
- Copy the exact brand, model number and color from both listings.
- Make sure the competitor is on Best Buy's list and sells the item itself, not a marketplace seller.
- Check that the competitor item is new and in stock, not clearance, refurbished or open-box.
- Confirm it is a single item, not a bundle.
- Have the competitor's listing ready to show.
