The bottom line
There's no single best store, so pick the one whose policy you'd actually use. Costco protects you most (90 days to return a TV and a warranty extended to 2 years) but needs a membership. Amazon has the longest holiday return window (last year, most items bought through December 31 could go back until January 31) and large-TV delivery, but it doesn't price match. Best Buy price matches, except during Black Friday week itself, and its standard TV return window is only 15 days. Wherever you buy, check the exact model number first.

The price-match trap during Black Friday week
Best Buy's Price Match Guarantee is a good reason to shop there most of the year, but it pauses exactly when most people shop. It excludes items on sale at a competitor from the Thursday before Thanksgiving through the Monday after, and anything marked as Black Friday pricing. Amazon doesn't price match at all. If you see a lower price elsewhere that week, the practical move is to buy where it's cheapest, or, if a store drops its own price after you buy, return and rebuy within its return window (Best Buy will also match its own lower price on request during the return period).
Whatever store: check the model number
Some Black Friday TVs are special "derivative" versions with their own model numbers and fewer features, such as one less HDMI port. They're only a problem if you don't know what you're getting. - Search the exact model number on the maker's site and compare its specs with the regular model.
- Pick the store by the policy you'll actually need: returns, warranty, delivery or price matching.
- Write down the store's return deadline the day you buy.
- Keep the box until that deadline passes; most stores require the original packaging for TV returns.
- Inspect the screen right after delivery, before the return window gets short.
